Mural of the Great Fire of 1922 by MARHMI

Where: Queen Street and Darst Avenue

This mural depicts The Great Fire of 1922 that raged through 40 blocks of New Bern. The storytelling mural is painted by MARHMI, a community artist group from the Dominican Republic.

Spider Lily by Susan Pascal Beran

Where: Convention Center
Thanks to a generous donation by Dr. Jim Congleton, the Spider Lily is now on display outside of the convention center in downtown New Bern. Dr. Congleton says he was inspired by the spider lily flowers he passed. In the 1800s, Navy Captain William Roberts, visited Japan and returned with spider lily bulbs which were planted in New Bern and are now know as the heirloom plant of the south.

Susan Pascal Beran is a renowned artist whose work has been exhibited across the country.

Want to see this piece in person? Head to the New Bern convention center and see this sculpture in full bloom.
