Artist Opportunities

​Craven Arts Council and Gallery is seeking submissions of Artwork featuring Chrysanthemums for the 2022 Mum’s the Word Exhibition. The artwork will be featured in the Director's Gallery at Bank of the Arts for the month of October, with one work to be selected for the 2023 Mumfest logo. 
​New Bern’s annual Mumfest brings thousands of people to the downtown area for fun, shopping, and entertainment. As part of the festival, Craven Arts Council will host Mum’s the Word, an art exhibition and contest to select artwork for the next year’s Mumfest. The winner of the Adult category will receive $200 and their piece will be featured on tee shirts, bags, banners, and other promotional items for the 2022 celebration.  This year there will also be a youth category for anyone under the age of 18. Artwork does not have to be only chrysanthemums, but must feature chrysanthemums in some way. Artists are asked to register their pieces online at www.cravenarts.org and drop off the work to Bank of the Arts October 1st and 2nd. Entries cannot exceed 36” in any direction and may not feature any text or numbers. For more information go to www.cravenarts.org.

Twin Rivers Artist Association is a local artist guild that meets once a month to discuss grants, learning opportunities and upcoming exhibitions. TRAA is a great resource for local artists to be updated on artists opportunities in Craven County. Meetings are on the last Thursday of every month.

​Membership Fee:  The dues are $20 for an individual, $30 for a family, $50 for a business/sponsor and $0 for a youth under the age of 18. 
Coastal Photo Club aims to bring together persons who are interested in acquiring and developing an appreciation of the art and techniques of photography.

Twin Rivers Quilting Guild

Twin Rivers Quilters Guild (TRQG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the art of quilting.  The Guild was charted in 1983 and became a chapter of the National Quilting Association in 1990.
TRQG's goal as a guild is to promote and perpetuate the art of quilting.  Our work is designed to benefit and educate all persons interest in preserving, continuing and advancing this art.  The guild meets our goal by offering workshops and instruction on quilting techniques , and by sponsoring various exhibits, including a biennial quilt show.

Nexus Poets

Nexus Poets is a local organizatin that was establish by Sam Love, Meg Wethington, and Alan Welch. The organization inititally was alloosley formed group of people who were interested in doing mothly poetry readings. In 2015, Sam and Meg named the fledgeling group, Nexu Poets, after the Nexus of New Bern's two rivers. From there the organization grew and now is a well established poetry organixation in New Bern.

$60 bi-monthly membership which includes unlimited shop time during operating hours, locker access, active project storage.
Shop Class New Bern operates much like a gym, but instead of paying to lift heavy weights, you pay to operate high quality tools in a comfortable environment. Shop Class also offers a variety of classes from multiple instructors in subject matter ranging from woodworking to welding to glass work.

West New Bern Recreation Center

The West New Bern Recreation Center is a 15,000 square foot facility that houses a game room, meeting room with kitchen facilities, air conditioned gym, ceramic room and offices. Several youth programs and adult programs are also offered  throughout the year as well as hobby and athletic clubs.
