HerStory
February 2023
Craven Arts Council & Gallery is seeking artist submissions for our upcoming exhibition HerStory, taking place in February 2023 in the Main Gallery at Bank of the Arts. Submissions are due by 11:59pm on January 22nd by completing the registration form at www.cravenarts.org. This exhibition is operated in conjunction with the presentation of the Vagina Monologues at New Bern Civic Theatre.
HerStory seeks to highlight the female experience and what it means to be a woman, in the modern era and throughout history. The exhibition’s title is a play on words, conveying its intent to explore both “Her Story,” the personal narratives of women; and “HerStory,” the history of women and their roles through time through another lens. Artists are asked to create work that ponders the issues that women have faced over time into the 21st Century. Artists may examine themes regarding the strength of women by creating artwork surrounding stereotypes, gender based violence, generational changes in roles, nurturing, resilience, beauty, health, wellness, and the light and the dark that makes up the essence of being female. Submissions are open to any artist residing in North Carolina, with no entry fee to submit. All 2D works must be smaller than 48” in any dimension. 3D works are considered but may be subject to size and/or weight constraints for the purposes of installation. Any work outside of those constraints may be considered by contacting Craven Arts Council & Gallery as outlined in Terms and Conditions. |
