For the Record Judge
Dare Oliver

Dare Oliver grew up in Carteret County and graduated with a BA in Photojournalism and Graphic Design from UNC-Chapel Hill. She most recently worked as the Coordinator of Fine Arts and Director of Marketing at The Epiphany School of Global Studies in New Bern, but she has held multiple communications, photography, writing/editing, and graphic design positions at businesses and nonprofits throughout Craven County over the last 25 years. Making things pretty, accurate, and interesting to look at is what Dare does best.

Though her professional life has always involved visual arts, Dare quickly discovered her personal life would also revolve around almost every art form you can imagine. She and her husband George were once told they have a "Renaissance Family," as they and each of their three children are now dedicating their lives to unexpected artistic projects/careers. All five members of the Oliver family performed folk music, pop, bluegrass and Americana as a band called 'Strung Together' for six years. They performed almost every weekend at community festivals, nonprofit fundraisers, and even private gigs that became a source of income for the kids. Strung Together has recorded five albums that are all available on Spotify and iTunes.

Having just retired, Dare is learning to play guitar, writing song lyrics, and learning to paint. She also enjoys hearing from her three grown children about their artistic endeavors. Catt is a 2D animator with a degree from SCAD, Abigail is a recent NYU graduate (Tisch School of the Arts) with a degree in acting, and Mason is attending UNC. He's hoping to find a group to perform with there. Meanwhile, you'll find Dare performing in 'The Bonafides -- a string band with reckless abandon' -- alongside her husband and dearest friends. She also enjoys listening to George play banjo on the front porch and watching his silly shenanigans on the theatre stage.

Vinyl Record Pickup Event:
CACG will be hosting a Vinyl Record Pickup Event from Tuesday, December 9 - Saturday, December 13, 2025. With an extensive collection of over 1000 records, we invite artists to come select 20 records to use for their submission(s). Artists are strongly encouraged to use records from the CACG collection rather than providing their own. Artists do not have to use all of the records in their work(s). CAC&G will also host a vinyl record sale during this time.

Entries and Fees:
Artists will pre-register to participate via the following registration link: www.cravenarts.org/record. There is a $10 entry fee for members of the Craven Arts Council and a $15 entry fee for non-members. Artists will pay in person while picking up their records.

All artists must complete the online registration form prior to picking up their vinyl records. This will ensure inclusion in the show.  Registration will remain open until December 13th, or until all slots have been filled.
