Craven Arts Council & Gallery
AI Art Statement
Beginning January 1st, 2026, Craven Arts Council & Gallery (CAC&G) will not accept any artworks in any exhibition or program of the organization that utilizes “AI” art generators for the creation of the images. This includes works using text to image AI generators, or was created using any compiler or generator that relies on the use of other artists’ images without the express permission of that artist. While CAC&G invites and encourages the participation of artists of any skill level to submit and participate in our exhibitions, the organization seeks to highlight the skills, content, and personality of the original works of our artists and community.
While “artificial intelligence” images are based off prompts or inputs from the user, the images are completely fabricated by data, with no regards to established copyright. The AI process establishes every element of the generated image’s composition: the forms, lighting, shadows, and faux mediums.
All CAC&G contracts with artists will include a clause expressly forbidding the inclusion of such works into CAC&G exhibitions and programs. Artists suspected of using AI may be asked about their process. Any artwork found to have been created with AI will be removed from the gallery immediately and returned to the artist.
